Secure Email

Most people know that email is not a secure form of communication. But did you know that if you use Outlook, there are ways you can send a secure email?

Including #secure# anywhere in the subject line or the body of your email message will encrypt your email. Your recipient will receive the following message in the body of the email:

You've received an encrypted message from sender@ucdavis.edu
To view your message
Save and open the attachment (message.html), and follow the instructions.
Sign in using the following email address: recipient@ucdavis.edu

The attachment will include instructions for the recipient to either log in or use a one-time passcode to access the encrypted email message you sent.

Remember that it is not best practice to send confidential or sensitive information through email and there are other options for sharing information in a secure manner, such as the use of secure cloud services.
